Stress & Burnout

The stress response is supposed to fire and then finish. Burnout is what happens when it never gets the signal to stop.

What this looks like

Rest doesn't restore you.

Irritability surprises you.

You run on urgency with nothing left for the people you actually care about.

How Rapid Resolution Therapy approaches it

RRT completes the loop the body never closed.

We work with the signal itself rather than adding another routine on top of a schedule that's already full.

The stress response is meant to switch off

The zebra gets chased, survives, shakes it off and goes back to eating grass. Its system fires, finishes and resets. Ours can fire at an inbox, a phone call, a diagnosis in the family, and then just keep running, because the thing that set it off never quite ends.

Over months, that becomes the baseline. You stop noticing you're braced, because you've been braced so long it feels like who you are.

Burnout isn't a scheduling problem

Most burnout advice is logistical. Block your calendar. Say no more often. Take a vacation. Those can help, and sometimes they're necessary. But people come back from a week off and feel depleted by Tuesday. That tells you the problem isn't only the hours.

It's also how your system is carrying the load: the urgency, the constant readiness, the sense that nothing is ever finished. I've written more about this for people in demanding jobs on the professional burnout page, and for people looking after family on caregiver stress.

What therapy can and can't change

I'll be honest about this. Therapy can't shrink your workload, give you a better boss, or make your family member well. If the situation itself has to change, that's a decision for you to make, and I won't pretend a session replaces it.

What therapy can work on is how your system carries what's there, so the same week costs you less. Present-focused tools from mindfulness-based therapy sometimes play a part in that alongside RRT.

Fitting sessions around a full week

Booking hours are Monday to Thursday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Friday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Eastern. Weekends are closed. Sessions are 90 minutes by video, so there's no commute, no waiting room, and no parking.

You'll need a private space and to be physically in Florida for the session. Weekday slots start at 7:00 AM Eastern, so a session can happen before the workday begins, wherever you are in Florida, from the Panhandle to Orlando.

Signs your system is running hot

Burnout rarely announces itself. It creeps. You notice you're snapping at people you love. Coffee stops working. Sunday evenings carry a low dread. You lie awake making lists, or you sleep ten hours and wake up tired. Small decisions feel enormous.

None of that is a character flaw, and you don't need all of it for it to count. If some of it sounds familiar, and especially if it has been going on for months, it may be time to look at the load underneath rather than pushing harder. If you're wondering where burnout ends and depression begins, see burnout or depression?

Questions people ask

No. You can start while you're still working. If you're considering time off, that's your call, and something we can talk about, but it isn't a requirement.

They can overlap and feel similar, especially the exhaustion and flatness. They aren't the same thing. If you're unsure which you're dealing with, a doctor can help rule out physical causes, and we can talk it through in a consultation.

Yes. Sessions can be booked from 7:00 AM Eastern, Monday to Friday.
