# Tried therapy before?

If you've already done therapy, maybe for years, and you're still stuck, you might be skeptical about trying again. That's fair. It's one of the most common hesitations people have about RRT, and it deserves a straight answer.

## It's usually not that you didn't try hard enough

People who have been in therapy a long time often quietly blame themselves. Maybe they didn't open up enough. Maybe they didn't do the exercises. Maybe they're just the kind of person who doesn't get better.

Usually none of that is the reason. More often, the work was aimed at something different from what was keeping you stuck.

## Understanding a problem versus being free of it

A lot of therapy is about understanding. Where a pattern came from, why it made sense, how it plays out. That's valuable, and for some people it's enough. But you can understand something in real depth and still react the same way every time.

Insight alone doesn't always change the reflexive patterns underneath. The part of the mind that understands isn't always the part that reacts. There's a longer explanation of that on RRT vs. traditional talk therapy (https://mcfaddeninstitute.com/approach/rrt-vs-talk-therapy).

## What's different here

Sessions are 90 minutes and focused on how your mind is holding things now, rather than going back over the history again. You won't be asked to relive the details or retell your life story from the start. The style is direct and conversational, and often lighter than people expect.

You stay in the driver's seat. If something isn't working, we adjust in the room. You can read more about how a 90-minute session works (https://mcfaddeninstitute.com/approach/90-minute-sessions), and about the approach itself on what is Rapid Resolution Therapy? (https://mcfaddeninstitute.com/approach/rapid-resolution-therapy).

## What isn't different

There are no guarantees here either. RRT isn't magic. It doesn't work for every person on every issue, and I'll tell you honestly if I don't think it's the right fit. If, partway through, it isn't helping, I'd rather say so than keep booking sessions.

It also isn't a replacement for everything you've done before. If previous therapy gave you useful tools or understanding, keep them. Nothing here asks you to throw that away.

## What to share on the free consultation

If you've stopped and started therapy before, say so on the free consultation. It changes where we begin. It helps to know roughly what you've tried, what helped, what didn't, and what you're hoping will be different this time. You don't need to give me the whole history, just the outline.

The consultation is free and takes 15 minutes. No paperwork, no pressure. Sessions after that are $225 each, private pay, booked one at a time, so you're never committed to a package. People anywhere in Florida can meet by video, from Pensacola to West Palm Beach (https://mcfaddeninstitute.com/service-areas/west-palm-beach).

## If you left therapy feeling worse

Some people didn't just find therapy unhelpful. They found it hard: going over painful memories week after week, crying through sessions and leaving raw, dreading the next appointment. If that's what put you off, it's worth knowing this work is set up differently. You won't be asked to relive the details, and you set the pace. If a session starts to feel like too much, say so, and we change course. If cost and commitment are on your mind, see how many sessions will I need? (https://mcfaddeninstitute.com/resources/how-many-sessions)

## Questions people ask

### Do I have to tell my whole story again from the start?

No. The work focuses on how things are affecting you now. A rough outline of what you've tried before is useful, but you don't need to go back over everything.

### What if this doesn't work either?

It might not. RRT doesn't work for every person on every issue. If it isn't helping, I'll tell you honestly, and sessions are booked one at a time, so you're never locked in.

### Is RRT just another kind of talk therapy?

It involves plenty of talking, but the focus is different. Rather than building more understanding of the problem, the conversation is aimed at how the mind is holding an experience now.
